2021 Regional Wānanga

Kia ora ngā uri o Tūaropaki

For the first time in the Trusts history, Tūaropaki Trust will be holding regional wānanga to connect and engage with Owners and uri and seek their feedback on the future of the Trust.

There are 5 regional wānanga that will be scheduled, however with Covid-19 and in the interests of keeping our kuia and kaumatua safe, we have decided to postpone all wānanga except Whanganui.

A decision will be made on Whanganui on October 25th on whether this wānanga will progress, we made the commitment to only proceed in Level 1.

  1. Whanganui Wānanga: Saturday 27th November 9-2pm at the Kingsgate Hotel - POSTPONED
  2. Mōkai Wānanga: Saturday 25th September 9-3pm at Mokai Marae - POSTPONED
  3. Auckland Wānanga: Saturday 9th October 9-2pm at Alexandra Park - POSTPONED
  4. Hawkes Bay Wānanga: Saturday 30 October 9-2pm at Hawkes Bay Racing Centre, Raureka - POSTPONED
  5. South Island Wānanga: Saturday 13th November 9-2pm at Novotel Cathedral Square - POSTPONED

Because we are expecting a significant turn out to our wānanga, we would appreciate it if attendees could pre-register by emailing ownerservices@tuaropaki.com (preferably at least a week before the regional wānanga you wish to attend) to let us know who will be attending, Owner and/or uri, if you have a shareholder number, and any dietary requirements.

We are still committed to engaging our Owner whānui and will be sending out an information pack shortly. This will have information on the current Trust Order and our suggested changes.

Once we are able to schedule in all wānanga, our full consultation document will be resent asking for Owner feedback and your whakaaro on any potential changes to the Trust Order.

These regional wānanga will be an opportunity to learn about the history of the Trust and an opportunity for you to share your whakaaro on three important matters:

  1. The purpose, values and vision of the Trust. You can see our current values here
  2. Current Trust Order, potential changes and the impacts these may have on Owners
  3. Future of the Trust – what are your aspirations for the future Trust

If you have an Owner ID card, please bring it with you to ensure a quick and easy registration.

It is the Trustees hope that Owners will also bring along their mokopuna, tamariki and/or rangatahi to the wānanga so they too can connect with the Trust and understand how they whakapapa into the fabric of Tūaropaki and all that the Trust has been and will be.

Following the regional wānanga, all feedback will be collated into a document and sent to Owners for consideration. This will then determine next steps, for example, whether Owners require more information or whether we move straight to a draft Trust Order.

The process will be as follows:

Step 1: Regional wānanga and consultation document to collect Owners’ views
Step 2:  All of the feedback will be collated and a report sent to the Owners
Step 3: Draft Trust Order will be sent to Owners
Step 4: Special General Meeting to Vote on whether or not to accept the draft Trust Order
Step 5: If the Vote accepts the draft, then an application will be made to the Māori Land Court to update and confirm the new Trust Order

We hope to meet as many of our whānui as we can in the not so distant future and will be in contact as soon as any decisions on regional wānanga are made.

It is important to us that everyone has their say on the future direction of Tūaropaki Trust.

Ngā mihi

Tūaropaki Trustees
