Te tūranga | Your Role
We are seeking a 3 month Fixed-Term Junior Shepherd to support station operations during a busy livestock period. Working alongside experienced staff, you will assist with day-to-day station activities while developing your skills in a practical, supportive farming environment. This role is suited to someone early in their shepherding career who is keen to learn and be part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
With guidance and supervision, you will:
- Assist with stock handling, yard work, and livestock movements
- Support animal health tasks including vaccinating, drenching, docking, and crutching
- Carry out basic shearing and mustering with dogs
- Assist with general fencing, maintenance, and tidy-up work
- Follow all health and safety procedures
- Willingness to learn how to milk cows and provide relief milking assistance to the Dairy team
What You’ll Bring
- Interest in farming and developing a career in shepherding
- Livestock or station experience
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Basic dog-handling experience or motivation to develop this skill
- Strong work ethic, reliability, positive attitude and commitment to Health and Safety
