Tūaropaki Trust (http://www.tuaropaki.com) is an Ahu Whenua Trust under the auspices of Te Ture Whenua Māori. There are more than 2,700 Owners, a mix of individuals, Whānau Trusts and Kaitiaki Trusts, all descended from the original Owners. The Trust is a kaitiaki for ancestral taonga and manages complex business interests in the food and energy sectors, with assets valued at approximately $1 billion.

Te tūranga | Your Role
As the Shepherd General, reporting to the Station Manager, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day farm operations and livestock management. You’ll bring a strong work ethic, a passion for farming, and a positive attitude that contributes to the success of the Station.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply your knowledge of modern farming practices across daily operations
- Carry out animal health tasks, including drenching, vaccinating, and crutching
- Perform general fencing maintenance and repairs as required
- Assist with stock movements and other livestock-related duties
- Kill and prepare dog meat as needed
- Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- Experience using a handpiece
- Confidence in working dogs effectively (minimum of three dogs required)
- Tractor experience (an advantage)
- Strong self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re proactive, have a good sense of humour, and maintain a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude. Most importantly, you’ll be a collaborative team player who fits in well with station life.
This role requires a minimum of 3 working dogs.
