How to Apply Te Huarahi Tono

 Applications are closed and will re-open on 14 April 2025.

You or your natural descendants who meet the eligibility criteria (below) can apply online only, when applications are open. Please ensure your completed application is submitted by the due date. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Ngā Paearu | Eligibility

  • Be a current Tūaropaki E owner or descend from a current Tūaropaki E owner.
  • Be enrolled in an NZQA approved course and institution, or the international equivalent.
  • Be enrolled in a fee-based course (free or zero-fee courses are not eligible).
  • First-time applicants: Please provide ALL documents requested.

Ngā Mātāpono | Notes

  • Tertiary Grants are provided for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Owners (or their descendants) who live overseas can also apply – the course and institution must be approved by the Government of the country in which the study takes place.
  • Students who receive a first-year Free Fee Waiver are not eligible to apply for this grant.
